1988. Prom is approaching at Shadyside High School, and several high school girls are about to compete for the title of homecoming queen. Tiffany Falconer, the clear favorite, has been strenuously harassing Laurie Granger, a girl from a family with a tragic past who has run for the position out of principle. The day before the big event, one of the candidates disappears without a trace, and on the evening itself, an unknown person quietly begins to reduce the number of applicants for the crown of prom queen.
