1939. Major Ivan Roslyi by the will of ill-wishers finds himself in the thick of the Soviet-Finnish war. But it is his unit breaks through the impregnable Mannerheim line, which becomes the most important stage of the future victory. Against all odds, from that war Rosly returns as a Hero of the Soviet Union in the rank of colonel. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he finds himself surrounded, but leads thousands of Soviet soldiers to their own. Roslyi becomes famous as a lucky commander, and his successes increasingly anger his enemies not only on the battlefield.
