Ben Jordan is released early from prison, where he served time for the brutal murder of his pregnant wife. There was no direct evidence of the atrocity, but plenty of circumstantial evidence. Jordan's rehabilitation and employment will be handled by social worker Laura Matthews. Talking to Ben Jordan leads Laura to believe that he was convicted because of a miscarriage of justice. The intractable Laura, accustomed to seeing things through to the end, decides to conduct her own investigation into a long-closed case.
