After learning that his father, who disappeared several years ago, has been declared dead, Blake decides to take a family trip to his inherited home in the Oregon woods. On the drive up to the house at night, they nearly hit a certain creature and get into an accident. After getting out of the car, the family barely gets away from the pursuing beast and manages to barricade themselves in the house. The doors are locked, the windows are barred, and there seems to be nothing to fear, but suddenly Blake falls ill with a strange, rapidly progressive disease.
